FSVC, with funding from the U.S. Department of State, implemented a program from 2023 to 2025 to encourage regular security discussions between law enforcement units and local residents in the border regions of Mauritania and Senegal.
FSVC’s program aimed to increase understanding among local law enforcement and residents about their roles in enhancing security and countering terrorism in the Senegal-Mauritania border region.
Program Impact
- Conducted two comprehensive assessments to evaluate local engagement in border security, consisting of 134 focus group discussions across 253 villages and engaging 1,290 participants.
- Built the capacity of 79 Security and Defense Forces (FDS) staff in adopting new security approaches, and developed guides for FDS to strengthen security operations.
- Organized a series of awareness-raising caravans on security issues, reaching over 3,350 participants.
