In May 2022, FSVC received funding from the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Affairs (DRL) at the U.S. Department of State to implement a program to combat corruption in Sudan.
FSVC structured practical, demand-driven activities designed to equip Sudanese stakeholders to undertake reforms on their own. FSVC’s program supported local stakeholders to combat corruption in Sudan, with a focus on the extractive industries sector.
The program objectives were to:
1. Build the capacity of local organizations to monitor the extractive industries sector and push for reforms; and
2. Strengthen the ability of media to effectively report on the extractive industries sector.
Program Impact
- 184 local stakeholders trained in how to engage the public effectively
- 109 local independent journalists trained in fact-based reporting
- 100% of local stakeholders trained that increased their knowledge in best practices in extractive industries management
- 6 media products produced by FSVC-trained journalists
