NEW YORK, NY – The Financial Services Volunteer Corps (FSVC) presented the inaugural FSVC Volunteer of the Year Award to two volunteers from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance (NYSDTF) for their outstanding commitment to civic and global service. Over the last 8 months, NYSDTF Acting Commissioner Nonie Manion and NYSDTF Deputy Commissioner Amanda Hiller have brought their knowledge on tax administration to three FSVC projects in Albania.
Their involvement with FSVC has been critical to improving the formal financial sector in Albania. Their work to promote more efficient tax collection will help to pay off Albania’s public debt, and improve the overall quality of life for Albanian citizens through improved public services.
Taking time away from their demanding jobs, Ms. Manion and Ms. Hiller spent several weeks advising key decision makers in Albania, including the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister. These two volunteers also facilitated a working visit by officials from the tax authority in Albania to the New York Department of Tax and Finance.
The award was presented to Ms. Manion and Ms. Hiller by FSVC Chairman Bill Donaldson and FSVC President & CEO Andy Spindler, following the conclusion of a panel discussion hosted by FSVC on the topic of “Globalization, the Rise of Populism and the Central Role of Emerging Market Countries” at the Yale Club of New York on October 13, 2016.
